AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team split a doubleheader with the University of St. Thomas, bouncing back with a dramatic walk-off win after dropping game one.
Logan Smith laid down a walk-off safety squeeze to secure a SCAC tournament bid on Friday.
In game one, the Celts jumped out early and never looked back, handing the Tornados a 12-1 loss. St. Thomas piled up 16 hits, while Concordia managed just five hits with its lone run coming on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Game two flipped the script into a pitchers' duel. Concordia's staff held St. Thomas to just one run, and the offense delivered when it mattered most. Trailing 1-0 in the ninth, Landon Hyle tied the game with an RBI double before Smith brought home the walk-off run to secure a 2-1 victory.
Concordia Texas will look to earn the series victory in the rubber match tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm with the Senior Day ceremony beginning at 12:30.
