AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team walked it off in a 1-0 10-inning battle against Trinity on Tuesday night at Gardner-Boggs Field. Leaning on dominant pitching and timely execution to secure the win,
Jett Warner notched the walk-off with a RBI-single in the final at bat.
The win marked the second time in a week that CTX took down Trinity and marks the first time the Tornados swept the Tigers in regular season play.
The Tornados used a committee effort on the mound to keep Trinity off the scoreboard despite six hits and multiple scoring threats. One of the biggest moments came in the seventh inning when Jake Runnells entered with the bases loaded and no room for error. The right-hander delivered under pressure, escaping the jam and preserving the scoreless tie.
Runnells continued to deal across two shutout innings, striking out three and keeping Trinity off balance before handing things over to Ralph Wallace III. Wallace closed the door down the stretch and picked up the win, finishing off 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Offensively, chances were limited for both sides, but Concordia capitalized when it mattered most. In the bottom of the 10th, Carson Riley sparked the rally with a leadoff single to center field. After advancing into scoring position, Riley eventually came around to score the game-winning run on Warner's RBI single, sealing the walk-off victory.
In total, Concordia tallied seven hits in the contest, but it was the pitching staff and Runnells' clutch escape that defined the night.
Concordia Texas will next host the University of the Ozarks for a series starting this Thursday, April 9th. First pitch is TBD due to inclement weather.
