CLEBURNE, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team earned their second stragiht run-rule victory with a 13-3 win over McMurry to advance to the SCAC Tournament Championship Series. The Tornados plated nine runs in the frame and never looked back at La Moderna Field on Sunday.
Samuel Ortiz sparked the first-frame rally with a leadoff triple, and Louis Alonzo followed with an RBI double to get things started. Kalen Clark added an RBI double, and Landon Hyle drove in another run with a single.
Jett Warner kept it going with an RBI double before Carson Riley brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Logan Smith and Ortiz added RBI singles later in the inning, and Alonzo and Clark capped the frame with additional run-scoring hits to make it 9-0.
McMurry answered with a three-run shot in the fourth, but Concordia responded in the fifth when Alonzo delivered a two-RBI single to extend the lead. The Tornados added two more in the sixth as Smith doubled and Kolten McDaniel drove in a pair with a single to push the advantage to 13-3.
Jackson Low earned the win on the mound, going 5.1 innings while allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Gavin Voth closed it out with 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out two. Concordia finished with 15 hits and 12 RBIs, with multiple players contributing to the offensive outburst.
With the win, CTX has now made it to the SCAC Championships in their first two years as a member of the SCAC.
Concordia Texas will now wait to see who they will play in the Championship series. In the Championship series, the Tornados will only have to win once and their opponent will have to win twice to earn the title. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
