Baseball Dominates to SCAC Title

CTX bounced LeTourneau in the finals, 10-5. Tornados went 4-0 and scored 44 runs.

CLEBURNE, Texas - The Concordia Texas baseball team bounced LeTourneau in the finals, 10-5, as the Tornados capped a perfect 4-0 run while scoring 44 total runs to claim their first-ever SCAC Championship and sixth conference title overall. Over the course of the tournament, freshman Louis Alonzo set the new SCAC single tournament record with his 13th hit.

The Tornados jumped out fast in the first inning as Alonzo doubled and Landon Hyle followed with a two-RBI triple to make it 2-0. Concordia added to the lead in the second, with RBI singles from Samuel Ortiz and Alonzo pushing the advantage to 4-0.

LeTourneau responded with a four-run third inning to tie the game, but Concordia answered right back in the bottom half. After Jett Warner reached and moved into scoring position, Logan Smith delivered a sacrifice fly to regain a 5-4 lead.

The game remained tight until the seventh when Carson Riley drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 6-4. Concordia then broke things open in the eighth with a four-run inning. Alonzo sparked the rally with an RBI triple, Kalen Clark added a sacrifice fly, and Ty Klaus-Kisamore capped the inning with a two-run home run to put the game out of reach at 10-4.

On the mound, Gavin Voth was dominant in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just four hits to earn the win. The Tornados' bullpen combined to limit LeTourneau after the third inning, allowing just one run the rest of the way.

Concordia's balanced attack featured contributions up and down the lineup, with multiple players recording multi-hit performances as the Tornados secured the championship victory.

The Tornados were slotted six members to the SCAC All-Tournament Team for their extraordinary efforts with Louis Alonzo, Kalen Clark, Landon Hyle, Samuel Ortiz, Jake Runnells, Logan Smith, & Gavin Voth all being selected.

UP NEXT: Concordia Texas will await word on where they will compete in the NCAA Regionals. The watch show will be Monday, May 11th on the NCAA Division-III Softball Selection Show on ncaa.com. The NCAA Regional will be the weekend of May 14-17th.
