THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team opened the 2026 regular season with a tough road test against No. 14 Cal Lutheran on Thursday. The Tornados kept the nationally-ranked Regals off the scoreboard for more than an hour before ultimately falling 2-0 at William Rolland Stadium.
Cal Lutheran applied pressure throughout the opening half, but the Concordia defense stood strong behind goalkeeper Kylie Bourquin. Bourquin made five saves in the first 45 minutes as the Tornados entered halftime locked in a scoreless tie. The Regals totaled 14 shots and eight corner kicks in the opening period, but CTX continued to turn away each opportunity.
Concordia began to find more opportunities after the break, earning its first corner kick in the 51st minute. The Tornados held the match scoreless until the 63rd minute, when Cal Lutheran broke through for the game's opening goal.
The Tornados looked for an equalizer down the stretch, with Karis Hickey generating a pair of shots and Riley Jackson putting an attempt on frame in the closing seconds. Cal Lutheran added an insurance goal from Jessica Sprouse in the 88th minute to secure the 2-0 result.
Concordia Texas will remain in the Sunshine State where they will take on Whittier College this Saturday. Kick off is scheduled for 11am CST.
