Concordia Texas Athletics

Senior Russell Johns of the baseball team is the 33rd Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year. He is receiving the award for the first time of her career.

Johns played a major role in helping the Tornados clinch the ASC West Division title outright and potential hosting rights for the entire conference tournament. He entered the decisive third game against Texas Lutheran in the 10th inning and hurled 5.2 scoreless frames in which he allowed only two hits on singles while striking out five and issuing just one walk. Opponents only batted .167 against him and he only allowed one runner to reach second base on a sacrifice bunt in that third game.

Johns, a kinesiology major from Troy, Texas, is the son of Rhonda and Doug Johns. He has one brother, Brandon.
