First Half Pushes LeTourneau Over CTX

AUSTIN, Texas --
A two-goal first half helped LeTourneau University defeat the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Fields.

The Tornados (3-7-2, 1-6-2 American Southwest Conference) were able to muster one second-half goal as senior midfielder #Brian Friend# collected a blocked shot and found the back of the net in the 60th minute.

Trailing by one goal, CTX was unable to capitalize on several opportunities late in the contest.

LeTourneau (4-5-4, 1-4-3 ASC) took just six shots in the first half, but made two of them count.  Dillon Holt netted the YellowJackets first goal in th 33rd minute.  Later in the half, Eric Williams doubled the lead in the 45th minute with his first goal of the season on a header.

Despite losing 2-1, the Tornados outshot the YellowJackets, 19-15.  LeTourneau goalkeeper Kyle Davis was forced to make seven saves in the match.

Junior midfielder #Travis Westfall# led the Tornados with eight shot attempts, including four that were stopped by Davis.

Friend took four shots, including two on net, one of which found its way over the line.

CTX will return to action on Sat., Oct. 17 against East Texas Baptist University.  The two teams will meet up at 3 p.m. at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Field for an ASC match.
