AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team rolled to a 4-1 decision over the visiting Louisiana College Wildcats Thursday afternoon at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Fields. Senior midfielder #Armando Dimeo# netted two goals and added one assist to pace the Tornados (2-1-0, 1-0-0 ASC).
In a game that started with a fast and furious pace and ended with six yellow cards and one red card, the Concordia Texas men's soccer team opened the ASC portion of their schedule with a three-goal win.
The Tornados pressured Louisiana College (0-7-0, 0-1-0 ASC) all game and outshot the Wildcats 30-14.
CTX started the scoring in the 18th minute of play as junior midfielder #Mathew Waltz# placed a great ball ahead to Dimeo who scored on the breakaway giving the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
Senior defender #Cameron Wiles# recorded the game winning goal in the 31st minute of play after Dimeo played a ball off a nice heel flick, which cleared Wiles for the goal.
The Wildcats picked up their lone goal in the 34th minute as Edgar Narvaez scored unassisted after the Tornados were unable to clear a ball along their back line.
Three minutes later the Tornados pushed the lead back to two goals as junior midfielder #Travis Westfall# scorched a ball from 25 yards out that was well placed into the back of the net.
Dimeo wasn't finished as he picked up his second goal of the game on a great assist from freshman #Jamo Lopez# who lead Dimeo down the left sideline. Dimeo promptly put the game out of reach in the 75th minute after placing his shot just inside the near post, giving CTX a 4-1 advantage.
Westfall led the Tornados with eight total shots, including five on goal. Dimeo took just four shots, but two of them found the back of the net. Dimeo racked up five total points in the win for the Tornados.
Concordia Texas will look to improve on its 1-0 conference record as Mississippi College rolls into town Saturday, Sept. 19 in a 4 p.m. contest at Town & Country Optimist Soccer Fields.
