IRVING, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team pitched its seventh shutout of the year Tuesday as the Tornados rolled to a 2-0 victory over the University of Dallas. Chastity Carrillo scored the game-winner in the 58th minute as CTX now stands at (8-4-1, 5-2-1 ASC) on the year.
The Tornados were able to transfer its home success (5-1-0) to the road Tuesday (3-3-1) as Concordia dominated the 90 minute match, attempting 23 shots and limiting the University of Dallas (3-7-1) to just four shots on the day.
In the first period it was back to business as usual for the young midfield of Concordia as Axita Patel fired a shot that was blocked by UD goalkeeper Brigid Hasson and Chastity Carrillo knocked one off the post in the first fifteen minutes of action.
The match remained scoreless heading into the 58th minute until Patel connected on a pass to Carrillo and the freshman found the back of the net for a 1-0 Concordia advantage. It was Carrillo's second game-winning goal of the season and along with Patel, now has collected over 15 points on the year for the Tornados.
Amanda Tarpley snuck in a goal in the 89th minute securing the 2-0 CTX victory. The red-hot Tarpley collected six shots in the match and has now scored three times in the previous two contests.
Kiera Ruck recorded four shots in her first start of the season and Chelsea Lopez also attempted one shot in the win.
Lauren Browning spearheaded a Concordia defense that allowed just three shots on goal and has now registered shutouts in four of its previous five contests.
University of Dallas midfielder Claire Sexton recorded two shots on goal while goalkeeper Brigid Hasson was able to make five saves in the match.
Concordia will be back on the road this Saturday as the Tornados face a University of Texas-Tyler team that is currently (10-3-0, 7-1-0 ASC). Both teams stand in the top three of the American Southwest Conference and are among the conference leaders in goals allowed. The match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
