RICHARDSON, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas volleyball team spilt two matches vs American Southwest Conference East Division opponents Friday as the Tornados improve its record to 5-8, 3-4 ASC. CTX won its first match in dominating fashion defeating East Texas Baptist 24-26, 29-27, 25-22, 25-14 and then lost in four sets to LeTourneau by the scores of 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 24-26.

The Tornados were led by a balanced offensive attack in its match versus East Texas Baptist as the team hit at a .200 clip. Sammy Ladewig and Bianca Martinez showed off the benefits of the 6-2 system by dishing out 28 and 18 assists apiece. Libero Jessie Mundfrom tied her season-high recording 27 digs in the contest while Kalynn White had a team-high 12 kills.

In the first set both teams traded points until a CTX hitting error and an Amy Wooten kill proved to be the difference in the 26-24 ETBU victory. In what could have been the most thrilling set of the first day at the Crossover Challenge Concordia grinded out a 29-27 victory after trailing 21-23. Big kills from Kalynn White and Amanda Affolter rallied the Tornados late and both team were unable to take advantage of set point twice. Then White delivered a huge ace to win the set 29-27 and give Concordia a big boost of momentum going into games three and four.

Concordia was able to again play well down the stretch to defeat ETBU in set four 25-22 before cruising to an easy 25-14 victory in set five to bring home the match win for the Tornados.

In the nightcap, CTX continued their winning ways defeating LeTourneau in set one 25-23. LETU proved to be too strong down the stretch however, as the Yellow Jackets won three straight games 25-23, 25-18, and 26-24 to take the match.

Concordia will return to the court today to face No. 18 Texas-Dallas at 12:00 p.m. UTD enters the contest with an eight match winning streak and 12-1 overall record.
