AUSTIN, Texas --- A spectactular comeback effort from the Tornados was spoiled by three unanswered goals in the last three minutes of the match to give Hardin-Simmons a 5-2 victory Thursday afternoon at St. Stephen's Field.
The loss leaves Concordia's current record at (2-3-0, 0-1-0 ASC) while Hardin-Simmons now improves to (3-1-0, 1-0-0 ASC) on the season.
The Tornados silenced a large Hardin-Simmons crowd by scoring two goals in a five minute span to tie the match at the seventy minute mark. The first came on a
Mathew Waltz pass placed just inside the middle of the 16 where
Oscar Diaz made a great first touch, juked a HSU defender, and then struck a bullet just inside the right post.
Just five minutes later fans witnessed more magic from the right foot of
Piri Rabadan as the CTX freshman settled a ball high and wide of the right box, squared his shoulders and ripped a shot that bent around two HSU defenders and settled perfectly into the far top corner of the net.
Concordia nearly used that momentum to knock across a potential game winner, but that's when the Cowboy's Isiah Hicks dished out an assist to teammate Tyler Barras and then scored two goals in three minutes to give HSU a dramatic 5-2 win.
Hardin-Simmons was able to find space offensively most of the match creating 14 shots on goal including nine in the second period. The Tornados finished with nine shots (four on goal) and freshman
Todd Edgington made nine saves in the first start of his collegiate career.
The men's team will be back in action this Saturday as they try to knock off McMurry University in a home match starting at 2:00 p.m.
