AUSTIN, Texas --- The Concordia University Texas women's soccer team was dominant on Saturday afternoon as the Tornados collected 31 shots compared to only one from McMurry in the 5-0 victory at St. Stephen's Field. The win gives CTX their first American Southwest Conference victory of the season.
Concordia's record now stands at 2-3-0, 1-1-0 ASC as McMurry falls to 0-6-0, 0-2-0 on the season.
The CTX sideline was all smiles after the match Saturday as the team picked up a goal in the 35th minute and poured on four more in the second period. Perhaps even more satisfying to Head Coach Corey Holton was the Tornado's ability to control possession, win 50/50 balls and execute corner kicks.
Facilitating the first goal was
Hilary Wagner as the junior placed a corner kick perfectly into the far side of the six where
Axita Patel headed the ball into the back of the net to give Concordia a 1-0 lead. The score remained unchanged until
Chastity Carrillo found
Taylor Franklin in the 48th minute and the young striker found the back of the net with her left foot.
Just seven minutes later
Axita Patel found space in the right corner and delivered a beautiful cross to a wide-open Chastity Carillo who easily scored her third goal of the season to make it 3-0 CTX. Patel showed even more versatility in the 61st minute as she gathered a ball in transition, shook a MCM defender and struck a bullet into the right corner of the net for her fifth point of the match.
Hillary Wagner delivered the final blow as she bended a corner kick deep into the six where the McMurry goalkeeper deflected it into the goal to cap off a 5-0 victory.
The back-line of Concordia was just as impressive, allowing no shots on goal while strong play from the mid-field aided in a season-high 31 shot attempts for the match.
McMurry goalkeepers Hillari Chambers and Bianca Van Osdol combined to make 11 saves on the day.
Concordia will be back at home Monday as they host Huston-Tillotson in a non-conference contest set for 2:00 p.m.
