Concordia (13-5, ASC 10-3), which is making its second straight appearance in the postseason event after setting school records for overall and conference victories, is seeded a program-best third in the tournament. Third-year head coach Corey Holton has completely changed the culture of the program since taking over a squad which had never won more than four matches in a single season in 2009. The Tornados won five matches in her first year, setting a school record at the time, before doubling that standard by recording 10 victories in 2010 and adding to it with 13 in 2011.
The Tornado offense has been led by its young stars, while the defense has relied on its veterans to find success. Thirty-four of the 40 goals have been scored by underclassmen and 23 have been tallied by freshmen. Freshman
Kendall Williams leads the team in scoring and recently set a school record for goals (12) and points (26) by finding the back of the net twice in the 4-0 rout of Louisiana College to close out the regular season. Classsmate
Lena New has seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Sophomores
Axita Patel and
Chastity Carrillo, who were All-ASC selections last season after breaking school records in practically every offensive category, have also helped pace the offense. Patel, who has six goals and five assists, holds the school record for career assists (12), while Carrillo has two goals and a team-leading seven helpers to date. Concordia's back line consisting of
Elizabeth Evangelista,
Lauren Browning,
Hilary Wagner and
Dalaine Whitlock went over 726 minutes without allowing a goal at one point this year. The streak was also the second-longest in the league this year. Sophomore
Olivia Jablinski, who has set single season and career records for victories (13), ranks among the ASC's top four in save percentage (.851), goals against average (0.64) and shutouts (7).
East Texas Baptist (11-5-1, ASC 8-4) is making its seventh all-time appearance in the tournament as the sixth seed. The Tigers have relied on their goalkeeping and defense, ranking third in the conference with a team goals against average of 0.82. Cristine Aquino has two shutouts and ranks fourth in the conference behind Jablinski with an .850 save percentage and an 0.75 goals against average. Rebecca Davis and Danica Saxon have paced the offense with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Davis has a team-leading seven goals to go along with five assists, while Saxon has scored four goals and has contributed a team-best eight helpers this season.
