Mohamed Diallo scored the golden goal in the 100th minute and set up another marker in leading the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Howard Payne on Thursday, Sept. 22 at St. Stephen's. With the victory, the Tornados are off to their best start ever in American Southwest Conference play and are unbeaten in their last three matches.

After a scoreless first half, Concordia got on the scoreboard first in the 68th minute. Kendall Rockers took a pass near the top of the box from Diallo and rifled a shot to the back of the net. The Tornados kept the pressure on in the second frame and had four corner kicks within a minute and several other opportunities to double their lead. The Yellow Jackets, however, were able to net the equalizer when Jaime Benitez found an open Shane Cazad on the right side of the box in the 80th minute.

The overtime period was dominated by Concordia, which held a 5-1 advantage in the frame. In the final seconds of the first sudden-victory period, Diallo took a short pass from Luc Nouck from the right side and was able to come through by netting the golden goal to clinch the victory for the Tornados and put an end to Howard Payne's three-game winning streak.

Jacob Stern earned his first victory of the season for Concordia, which outshot its opponent 32-13 and also had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks, by making two saves on 13 chances. Howard Payne's (3-2, ASC 1-1) Kyle Huesing suffered the loss despite turning away seven of the 32 shots he faced.

Concordia (2-2-1, ASC 2-0-1) will continue its current homestand on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it hosts rival Mary Hardin-Baylor at 4 p.m.
