BOX SCORE
Austin, Texas - Kendall Rockers scored his third goal of the season, but the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 24 at St. Stephen's.
In a battle for first place in the American Southwest Conference standings, Mary Hardin-Baylor (5-0-1, ASC 4-0-0) quickly got on the board first to take a 1-0 advantage into the recess. Kevin Johnson found a loose ball in the box shortly after a corner kick and was able to shoot it past Tornado goalkeeper
Jacob Stern in the third minute.
After several missed opportunities, Concordia was able to net the equalizer when Rockers took a cross from Christian Frederickson and buried the ball into the back of the net in the 85th minute. With the match destined for overtime, the Crusaders, however, were able to come back the other way and score the game-winning tally shortly before the final whistle. Trevor Shoppach finished a give-and-go play with Scott Poole to seal the victory for the visitors.
Jacob Stern made three saves on 18 opportunities for Concordia, which had its unbeaten streak snapped at three matches. Mary Hardin-Baylor's Adam Cecil turned away two of the 10 shots he faced in the winning effort.
Concordia (2-3-1, ASC 2-1-1) returns to action when it visits Texas Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
