Sean Maloney and Gary Grossman scored goals to propel the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team to a 2-0 triumph on the road against Texas Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 30 at Gustafson Field.  With the victory,  the Tornados have already matched a school record for conference wins in a season.

Concordia (3-3-1, ASC 3-1-1) scored first at the midway point of the opening half. Maloney netted his second goal of the season by one-timing a cross he received from Christian Fredrickson on the left side. The Tornados took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Late in the match, Grossman recorded his first career tally in the 86th by volleying the ball from the top of the box that bounced off the crossbar and into the net. Mohammed Diallo notched a point for the fourth time in five conference matches by providing the assist on the play.

Concordia's Todd Edgington earned the victory between the posts by making four saves on nine attempts. He was relieved early in the second half by Austin Beckett, who combined with Edgington for the clean sheet after turning away three of the eight shots he faced. The back line led by Chase Michalak, John Ricks, Matt Ruhe and Lyle Dixon added its second shutout ever in conference play. Texas Lutheran's (0-8-0, ASC 0-4-0) Brandon Reyes stopped five of the 17 shots he saw in the losing effort.

Concordia visits Schreiner tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.

Note: Concordia's men's and women's soccer teams and volleyball squad combined to post a 3-0 ledger on the same day for the first time in school history ...
