BOX SCORE

Abilene, Texas
Henry Riasco scored all 12 of his points off the bench in just 14 minutes of action as the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team sprinted past Hardin-Simmons, 92-75, on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Mabee Complex. The Tornados snapped a three-game losing streak to stay tied for fifth place in the American Southwest Conference West Division standings.

The start of the game was extremely close with the teams deadlocked five times in the opening four minutes. After the Cowboys went up by five courtesy of a 3-pointer by John Derr, the Tornados clawed back and were able to tie the score again at 23s on a Darius Anderson trey. Henry Riasco came off the bench and hit four shots from downtown to give Concordia a 31-27 lead with nine to play. The Tornados maintained the lead for the rest of the half and led  53-41 at recess.

Hardin-Simmons (12-4, ASC 9-3) came within eight in the early stages of the second half, but Concordia shook off the attempted rally and blasted ahead by 15 at 62-47 with 16:21 on the clock. Nick Haynes canned three shots in a row from downtown to spark a 9-0 run for the Tornados. A Josh Johnson conventional 3-point play put Concordia ahead by 17 before the first media timeout. The squad stayed in cruise control, building its lead up to 24 points, before running away with the victory while handing the Cowboys their most lopsided loss of the season.

In addition to Riasco, Concordia was led by Johnson and Haynes. Johnson had 17 points, five boards and four blocks, while Haynes got all 15 of his points from long range. Anderson also scored in double figures for the Tornados, netting 13, and added six assists. The Tornados were 12-for-26 from beyond the arc and 18-for-20 from the line.

Hardin-Simmons was paced by Derr, Terrance Booker and Derrick Jefferson. Derr netted a team-high 17 points, while Booker and Jefferson scored 16 and 14, respectively.

Concordia (9-8, ASC 7-6), which ended the weekend one game back of fourth place for the final playoff spot, will host Sul Ross State on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
