Belton, Texas
Tyler Grygar hurled a complete game in the opener and Kyle Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the nightcap to lead the #9/#17 Concordia University Texas baseball team to a doubleheader road sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, March 31 at Red Murff Field. The Tornados took game one, 8-1, before winning game two by a 9-3 decision to remain in a tie for first place with McMurry.

Concordia got to Crusader starter Taylor Burrow early and often in the opener, scoring all of its runs in the first two innings. Rodriguez started the five-run first with an RBI single up the middle before Andrew Burns singled in two more a few batters later. The Tornados went ahead 5-0 before the hosts even got to bat courtesy of a throwing error by the catcher, who was attempting to catch Colton Gommert from taking second on a double-steal attempt.  Gommert and Burns each scored on the play.

After Concordia added three more in the top of the second, which was capped by a bases-loaded walk issued to Nick Kozole, Mary Hardin-Baylor was able to get on the board in the next half inning on an RBI single by Zach Young. Grygar kept the Crusaders from scoring the rest of the way.

Concordia's Grygar hurled the first complete game of the season for the Tornado pitching staff. He allowed six hits and one run, which was earned, while striking out seven and walking only two to improve his ledger to 3-2. Taylor Burrow took the loss for Mary Hardin-Baylor and fell to 3-6 after being lit up for eight runs on seven hits, including six earned, in just 1.2 innings of work.

Concordia (24-6, ASC 10-2) started off hot in the nightcap as well, scoring twice in the top of the first. Rodriguez hit an RBI single and scored on yet another error on the Mary Hardin-Baylor catcher while attempting to steal second.

After Mary Hardin-Baylor (13-15, ASC 4-8) sliced the deficit in half by pushing across a run on a fielder's choice play, the Tornados answered with another run courtesy of a Kozole double that plated Kyle Bieschke and Gommert. The Crusaders made it a one-run game again by scoring twice in the fifth with Mogavero belting a two-run hit to left, but that was as close as they would come.

Concordia took control the rest of the way by scoring at least once in three of the last four innings. Rodriguez put the game out of reach when he singled up the middle with runners on second and third to send home Collin Janssen and Quinn Guest.

Reliever Bryant Hernandez picked up the victory for Concordia and ended the weekend with a 1-1 ledger. He pitched 1.2 scoreless frames, allowing one hit while striking out two. Mary Hardin-Baylor's Cameron Arnett dropped to 3-2 after taking the loss. He gave up eight hits and six runs, including five earned, in seven innings.

Before breaking for Easter, Concordia will host Schreiner for a three-game series on Apr. 5-6. The first game is slated to start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 5.
