Christian Fredrickson and Joakim Coleman each found the back of the net as the Concordia University Texas played Huston-Tillotson to a 2-2 tie in double overtime on Sunday, Sept. 9 at St. Stephen's.

The Tornados wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and took a 1-0 lead just 1:22 into the match. Pep Rangel, who had a hat trick on Friday, sent in a cross from the right side that was headed home by Christian Fredrickson. Concordia carried that 1-0 advantage into the recess.

Huston-Tillotson (0-0-1) answered back in the 75th minute courtesy of Marcos Escobar, but the hosts had an answer less than three minutes later. Sebastian Parra passed the ball back to Joakim Coleman outside the box from the left side, and the sophomore transfer cashed in by firing a laser past the opposing goalkeeper to put Concordia ahead 2-1. The Rams, however, were able to knot the score again when Oumar Djiba headed in a corner kick by Jeminson Mejia.

With the match tied up at 2-all at the end of regulation, both teams were able to find opportunities to cash in with the sudden-victory goal in the 10-minute overtime sessions. Each squad attempted four shots over the extra 20 minutes, but nothing was decided. Tornado goalkeeper Nick Martin made two huge saves on rockets attempted by Reynaldo Lopez and Djiba in the second overtime to help preserve the draw against the Rams, who are ranked 13th nationally in the NAIA.

Martin made nine saves on 27 chances for Concordia, while Huston-Tillotson's Marcos Sanchez turned away three of the 12 shots he faced.

Concordia (1-1-1) opens up conference play at Schreiner on Friday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
