AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when it faces East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference (ASC) contest. The league tilt is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at Cornish Field in Marshall, Texas.
The Tornados (1-6-1, 1-2-0 ASC) split a pair of conference matchest last weekend on the road. Concordia Texas earned its first win of the campaign with a 2-1 victory at Howard Payne last Saturday, but were handed a 3-0 loss at Hardin-Simmons the following afternoon.
Junior
Christian Fredrickson scored both of the Tornados' goals in the win over the Yellow Jackets. The local product out of Cedar Park High School has attempted a team-high 23 shots this fall, including nine on target. Sophomore
Matthew Butler has CTX's other goal, while his classmate, Ray Obeña, has netted two assists.
The Tigers (2-3-2, 1-1-2 ASC) are unbeaten in their last three outings (two draws/one win). East Texas Baptist played Mary Hardin-Baylor to a 2-2 tie in double overtime on Thursday evening. Peter Fitzsimmons, Hugo Orta and Gustavo Vazquez all have registered a team-high four points this fall. Fitzsimmons and Vazquez each have two goals apiece, while Orta has posted one goal and two assists.
Saturday's contest will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two teams. The Tigers hold an 8-3 advantage in the series, but Concordia has won two of the last three contests. The Tornados recorded a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist on Sept. 22, 2012 in Austin.
