AUSTIN, Texas – Brandon Gould hit a layup with 2.4 seconds left to give Howard Payne an 87-85 win over the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team on Thursday night at Concordia Fieldhouse.

The Tornados (3-2, 1-2 ASC) tied the contest at 85-all after Josh Sanchez hit a layup with 18 seconds remaining. However, Gould was able to make it into the lane and hit a left-handed shot to give the Yellow Jackets (1-4, 1-3 ASC) their first win over the year.

Sanchez scored a team-high 29 points for Concordia Texas, which shot 43.7 percent (31-of-71) from the floor.

Meanwhile, Donovan Ford led all scorers with 34 points and Gould tallied 16 for Howard Payne, which shot 50.8 percent (32-for-63) from the field. The Yellow Jackets battled back from an eight-point second half deficit by shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-29) in the final period.

The Tornados will return to action on Saturday when the squad hosts Sul Ross State. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
