Dwayne Patterson recorded a game-high 29 points in leading the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team to a 113-87 victory against Howard Payne on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the CTX Field House. After honoring the four-member senior class, the Tornados set a Division III program record by winning their 20th game of the season.

The Tornados were on fire from the opening tip, scoring the opening 21 points of the game to go ahead by three touchdowns. With the hosts up 6-0, Larry Durand hit the first of five consecutive 3-point field goals before Brandon Gould finally put the Yellow Jackets on the board with a good jumper at the 15:10 mark. Concordia went ahead by as many as 28 on three occasions and headed into the recess up 66-45.

After Terry Corprew set up a Patterson trifecta that created an 87-55 score, Howard Payne (8-17, ASC 6-13) started to chip away at the large deficit late in the second half. The Yellow Jackets came within 18 when a good jumper by Ross Whittet made it 93-75. But that was as close as it would get the rest of the way, as the Tornados went up by as many as 30 courtesy of a Josh Sanchez fastbreak layup to win in a rout.

In addition to scoring 29 points, Patterson also contributed eight rebounds, four assists and four steals to pace Concordia. Terry Corprew netted 17 points off the bench, while Haynes and Durand scored 14 apiece and combined for seven 3-pointers.

Howard Payne was led by Michael Thompson's double-double effort. He finished with 17 points and 13 boards. Bryan Adams posted 16 points in a reserve role.

Concordia (20-5, ASC 15-4) will trek to Texas-Dallas to compete at the American Southwest Conference Tournament, which begins with quarterfinal games on Friday, Feb. 22. The Tornados will be the second seed out of the West Division.
