Cade Radley earned his first career victory on the mound and
Jon McManemin hit a clutch triple to propel the Concordia University Texas baseball team to a 4-2 win over Southwestern on Monday, Apr. 15 at Tornado Field.
Concordia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Brent Schaekel hit a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by
Casey Skalaban.
Chance Leissner followed with a two-bagger to right field and scored to double the Tornado lead on a Conner Bertsch groundout to short.
Southwestern (3-33) came back to tie the game by plating one run in the second and another in the fifth, but the Tornados responded when McManemin tripled to the gap in left center to plate the go-ahead run. McManemin also scored an insurance run on a wild pitch in the eighth to seal the final outcome.
Radley improved to 1-1 on the year by hurling two scoreless frames of relief. He recorded three strikeouts and did not allow a hit or issue a walk.
Ryan Ullmann picked up his second save by hurling a scoreless ninth. He did not allow a hit and registered one strikeout.
Concordia (19-18) will wrap up the regular season at Texas Lutheran over the weekend beginning with a 2 p.m. game on Friday, Apr. 19. The Tornados, who have already qualified for the American Southwest Conference Tournament, will need to record one victory over the first-place Bulldogs during the three-game weekend series to earn the right to host an ASC Crossover Series against an East Division opponent to be determined on Apr. 26-27.
