AUSTIN, Texas – Estevan Hernandez drove in four runs, and the Concordia University Texas baseball team opened the 2014 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern on Saturday at Tornado Field.

The Tornados (2-0) won the opener 11-2 and earned a 10-5 victory in the nightcap.

Hernandez was one of four CTX players to record three hits on the day. Brent Schaekel scored four runs, logged a trio of hits, drew three walks and stole three bases.

Clayton Sparks paced the Pirates (0-3) with a pair of hits in both games.

The two squads will close out the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Cameron Cox struck out eight and the Tornados posted a seven-run sixth inning to roll past Southwestern in the season opener, 11-2.

The two teams were knotted at 2-2 in the fourth inning until Cole Calder produced an RBI triple that plated Ragan Pope. Schaekel followed with a run-scoring single to give Concordia a 4-2 advantage.

Two frames later, the Tornados sent all nine batters to the plate and scored seven runs to blow the game open. Hernandez posted a two-run single, while Tyler Bain recorded a triple that sent two runs across to cap the scoring.
