AUSTIN, Texas – Off to its best start in program history, the Concordia University Texas baseball team will continue American Southwest Conference (ASC) action with a three-game series versus Texas-Dallas this weekend at Tornado Field. The set opens at 7 p.m. Friday and concludes with a 1 p.m. doubleheader the following day.
The Tornados (9-1, 6-0 ASC), who are receiving votes in the latest
D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, are the lone unbeaten team in ASC play. Concordia Texas swept its third consecutive series last weekend at Louisiana College. The Tornados outscored the Wildcats 23-9 en route to the sweep, and all three of Concordia's starting pitchers picked up wins.
The Tornados' pitching staff ranks second in the league with a 2.93 ERA, while Concordia's offense ranks fourth in the circuit with a .325 batting average. CTX has outscored its first two conference opponents 52-13.
Connor Bertsch leads the club's offensive attack with a .462 batting average that includes four doubles, a home run and four RBIs.
Estevan Hernandez has posted a team-best 11 RBIs, while
Garrett Benyo has driven in nine runs.
Cameron Cox anchors Concordia's pitching staff with a 3-0 record and league-best 0.87 ERA. The right-hander also ranks second on the team with 22 strikeouts and has limited opposing hitters to a .208 batting average.
Kiel Harmon is 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA, while
Scott Weinschenk rounds out the rotation with a 2-0 record and 3.38 ERA. Weinschenk also leads the ASC with 26 strikeouts.
The Comets (6-4, 3-3 ASC) dropped two of three games against LeTourneau. Texas-Dallas ranks third in the league with a .329 batting average and fourth with a 3.40 ERA. The squad also has hit a circuit-best six home runs. Jimmy Norris is hitting a team-leading .475 with four doubles and a triple, while Nick Marti is batting .390 with a double, two homers and a team-high 14 RBIs. Micah Easterling is 2-0 with a rotation-best 2.37 ERA, while Tyler Dauer is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
The two teams have split the previous 18 meetings. Concordia is 5-2 against Texas-Dallas at home, and the Tornados eliminated the Comets from the ASC Tournament last April.
