AUSTIN, Texas – The top-seeded Concordia University Texas baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to No. 2 seed LeTourneau in a winners' bracket contest in the American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Tournament on Friday evening at Tornado Field.

The YellowJackets (31-12) used a strong pitching performance from Justin Jenkins, who worked 5.1 hitless innings before Brandon Hollier hit an RBI triple. The right-hander allowed only four hits and two runs, while improving to 8-3 on the year.

Jon Riley pitched two scoreless frames to finish off the contest for LeTourneau.

The YellowJackets pounded out 14 hits, including 10 off Tornados (29-13) starting pitcher Ragan Pope (3-1).

Dillon Yates broke open a scoreless game in the fourth with a three-run double to right field.

LeTourneau scored two more in the fifth to take a 5-0 advantage.

Concordia Texas managed its only tallies in the top of the sixth. After Brent Schaekel coaxed a one-out walk, Hollier hit a run-scoring triple down the right-field line. Estevan Hernandez then followed with a single to left, which plated Hollier.

However, it was all the runs that the Tornados could muster.

The YellowJackets tacked on one more mark in the seventh and two in the eighth before settling for a six-run advantage.

Five LeTourneau players registered two hits apiece, including Garrett Methvin, who was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Yates finished 1-for-4 with a game-high three RBIs.

Garrett Benyo paced Concordia with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

The Tornados will await the winner of the Texas-Dallas and Sul Ross State contest, which started at 7:30 p.m. Concordia will face one of those teams in an elimination game at 11 a.m. Saturday with an opportunity to advance and face the YellowJackets at 3 p.m.
