BOX SCORE COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to a close Sunday night as the Tornados suffered a 108-90 setback against No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater. It was Concordia's first game in the Pikes Peak Holiday Classic, hosted by Colorado College.
The Warhawks (7-2) controlled the contest nearly wire-to-wire despite five Tornados (5-2) ending the night in double-figures.
Dervyn Baines led CTX with 16 points off the bench.
Joe Neal and
Rashad Coleman added 13 apiece while
Demarco Richardson and Ephraim Price both finished with 10. Baines also paced the Tornados with eight rebounds. The Warhawks' Trinson White finished the contest with 22 points and nine boards, both game highs.
Concordia struggled to find its stroke in the first half, shooting at a 33.3 percent clip (12-of-36) from the field. UWW was 51.9 percent from the floor (15-of-29) in the opening period. Despite the shooting gap, the Tornados only trailed 46-40 at the intermission. After falling behind 41-25 with less than 3:00 left until the break, Concordia closed the stanza with a 15-5 spurt.
That momentum carried the Tornados into the early stages of the second half. Concordia drew within three with 15:50 left in regulation (56-53). UWW would lead by as much as 13 over the next seven minutes but the Tornados would keep chipping away, getting the game back within eight at the 7:34 mark (84-76). The Warhawks then took off on a game-sealing 16-4 run that lasted nearly four minutes.
The Tornados return to the hardwood tomorrow evening against Colorado College. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. Central.
