BOX SCORE BELTON, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 against Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-0 on Saturday night. It was first time the Tornados were shutout since November of 2014, ending a 25-match scoring streak.
Diego Outerial had three shots, while Omar Aguirre had two shots for Concordia in the contest. A total of five yellow cards were given out as the Tornados had three, while the Cru had two for the match.
CTX fell behind early in the first half as UMHB got on the scoreboard in the third minute when Caleb Latson took a pass from Daniel Santa and shot it pass goalkeeper Jesus Barrera to take a 1-0 lead. The Cru extended their lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute on a shot by McKenna Cook, when he deflected off a Tornado defender and into the goal.
In the second half, Outerial tried to make it a one-goal game in the 50th minute, but the shot was wide. In the 60th minute, Aguirre took a shot on goal but Mary Hardin-Baylor goalie Javier Zaragoza was there for the save. In the 85th minute, Concordia was fouled in the box for a penalty kick, but Outerial's shot was saved by Zaragoza, preserving his shutout. It was Outerial's first miss on a penalty kick this season.
Up next, the Tornados return home this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. to face Hardin-Simmons at St. Stephen's Episcopal School.
