BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's soccer team only needed a first-half goal to win 1-0 over McMurry for their second consecutive victory.
The goal came in the 24th minute after Diego Outerial's shot was deflected to Marc Kouassi, who shot it into the upper left corner of the net to give the Tornados the lead for the rest of the night. Concordia totaled eight shots in the first half, including Yovanny Castellanos's shot in the sixth minute that hit the crossbar. Isaiah Coombs tried to add onto the lead in the 40th minute, but the McMurry keeper was there for the save.
In the second half, the Tornados continued to be aggressive on offense, as they had another nine shots on goal in the half. In the 68th minute, Coombs was on the attack once again, but his shot hit the post and CTX was unable to convert. A key moment in the game came in the 81st minute as McMurry was on the attack and the War Hawks' Javi Mejia-Escalante shot into the left side of the goal, but Tornado goalkeeper Rob Oakley dove to his right for the save to preserve the shutout and the lead for Concordia.
Concordia has almost a full week off before hosting East Texas Baptist on Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Stephen's.
