CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball squad dropped its lone exhibition contest, 106-75, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night.
The Tornados outshot the Islanders 41.7 percent to 30.8 percent from beyond the arc and outscored their hosts 30-12 in 3-pointers, but A&M-CC's game in the paint was the key factor in the contest. The Islanders 50 total rebounds and their 52 points in the paint effectively kept CTX at a distance.
However, Concordia grabbed 11 steals and cashed in 26 points off of turnovers. Rashad Coleman had three thefts to lead the Tornado defense.
Ephriam Price had a team-high 12 points while Joe Neal added 11. Jhealan Wesley shared a game-high four assists.
The Islanders' Rashawn Thomas finished with 32 points and 17 boards to lead both categories on the night.
A&M-Corpus Christi led the contest wire-to-wire but Concordia rallied late and ended the contest on a 10-2 run.
The Tornados open the regular season on Nov. 18 against North Carolina Wesleyan in the opening contest of the Virginia Wesleyan tournament in Norfolk, Va.
