BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team fell short Saturday afternoon in a 101-96 battle against Wiley College.
The Tornados (5-3) held a 10-point lead with 3:12 left to play, but the Wildcats (8-1) surged for a 17-2 run to take the game away.
After a back-and-forth first half, WC went into the break with a 54-46 advantage. CTX came out of the locker room with all the momentum, however, as the Tornados soared to tie the game up at 69 with 12:07 left.
The two teams tied 10 times and traded the lead 13 times. The Wildcats took the lead for the final time on a layup by Cory Jones with 25 seconds left. Concordia had a chance to take it right back, but a Tornado turnover yielded another Wiley bucket. Joshua Samuels would launch a 3-point attempt on the next possession, but it fell short.
Joe Neal led the CTX scoring output with 26 points. Ephriam Price added 21 points and Payton Brown-Simon chipped in 11 off the bench. Wiley's George Page had a game-high 33 points.
Concordia opens conference play Monday night at Ozarks. Tip-off is set for approximately 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's contest.
