BELTON, Texas -- The Concordia Texas women's tennis team fell short in a heartbreaking 5-4 decision at Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday.

Giselle Dall'Orso went undefeated on the day, posting wins at both line three doubles and singles.

UMHB jumped out to a quick start in doubles, winning line one 8-1. The Cru started line two doubles up 6-1 early, but the Tornados played well and the CTX tandem of Leyla Martinez and Rean Vanderbilt made a comeback but fell short 8-6. The first Concordia point came at line three doubles with an 8-3 win.

Down 2-1 in the overall match after doubles, the Tornados won three singles matches with Martinez, Dall'Orso and Alexis Popovich all posting wins, giving the CTX a 4-2 advantage. UMHB won at lines two and six to even the match at four all. Genesis Carreon was down a set and trailed 5-2 in the second, but she fought back to force a third set. Unfortunately, her valiant effort fell short and UMHB won the overall match 5-4 to begin ASC West play.

"I'm very proud of how the girls fought today. That was our best complete team match of the year. We are improving every week, if we keep pushing and working hard I am confident we will be where we want to be at the end of the year," coach Daniel Whitehead said.

The Tornados return to action Friday, April 1 at 2 p.m. against Howard Payne for Concordia's first home ASC West contest since the return of tennis.
