BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- In the mid-day summer heat, two goals by freshman forward Maddi Timmons including the go-ahead score in the 84th minute gave the Concordia Texas women's soccer team a season opening 2-1 victory over Huston-Tillotson Thursday at Town and Country Park.

Late in the second half, a through pass by freshman midfielder Kayla Carlove led to Simmons having a one-on-one attack with Rams (0-1) goalkeeper junior Evelyn Martinez, putting it past her in the left corner for the goal and the lead for the Tornados (1-0).

After a slow start to the opening minutes, a foul in the box gave the Rams an early scoring chance with a penalty kick, but freshman goalkeeper Shelby Franco was there for the save keeping the score at 0-0. It wasn't until the 37th minute when the Rams broke through the defense for a goal by junior forward Kimberlin Palacios off the pass from senior forward Victoria Elizalde. H-T went into the intermission with a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn't last long.

In the 62nd minute, Timmons found the back the net off a cross pass from freshman forward Angel Cohen for the equalizer. Huston-Tillotson matched Concordia's aggressiveness, but Franco was there for all of them, making five of six total saves in the second half.

Up next, CTX goes on the road to Georgetown, Texas, to face Southwestern University on Sunday at 7 p.m.
