AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Women's Tennis team defeated Schreiner 5-1 in their home-opening match on Friday afternoon.
In the doubles matches, the Tornados won two of the three matches. The team of
Leyla Martinez and
Justus Aarhus went back and forth against the Mountaineers. Tied at 8-all, the match went to a tiebreaker, which CTX won 7-2, for the first win of the day. In another closely contested match, Serena Segal and
Lisette Mata broke SU's serve once and won the match 9-7. The finals doubles match of the day, the duo of
Hayley Anderson and
Camille Kempf were unable to battle back against the Mountaineers, dropping the match 8-1.
In the singles matches, Aarhus won the first set in her match 6-3 and was leading the second set 1-0 before SU's Camila Anguiano retired due to injury. Mata won her match 6-3, 6-4, to take the second singles match of the day. Anderson dropped the first set 3-6, before battling back to take the second set 7-5 and was able to capture the third set 6-2 to win the match and the team match overall as the Tornados secured their first win of the season.
Next up, CTX will travel to Abilene, Texas to face McMurry on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
