Tornados sweep Sul Ross State

AUSTIN, Texas - The Tornados notched their first conference win of the season with a 9-0 victory over Sul Ross State at River Place Country Club on Friday afternoon.

The Tornados came out ready to work, starting the day by taking all three doubles points. The tandem of Serena Segel and Camille Kempf  gave the Tornados the first win of the day with a strong 8-1 victory at line three doubles. The number one team of Leyla Martinez and Justus Aarhus then followed with a steady performance and won their match 8-3. The number two team of Lisette Mata and Hayley Anderson completed the sweep of the doubles point, by battling back after being down 4-1, ending up winning the match 8-5.

In singles, Justus Aarhus gave a dominant performance at line two singles and was the first one off the court with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Not long after that, Leyla Martinez came off the court with a strong 6-4, 6-1 victory at the top of the line-up. The Tornados kept the momentum going and ended up not dropping a set on the day.

"We came out strong, started slower at line three doubles, but they turned it around and we ended up sweeping the doubles," Head Coach Daniel Whitehead said, "The girls didn't look back and pushed hard in all the first sets and ended up getting a 9-0 sweep there. Happy about the overall performance of the girl's team."

The Tornados are looking to carry the momentum into next week when they will take on Howard Payne on April 7 at 11 a.m.
