AUSTIN, Texas – Following a stellar regular season, the Concordia Texas volleyball team heads into the American Southwest Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the ASC West.
The Tornados will face off with the No. 3 seed from the ASC East, LeTourneau, in a first round elimination match on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. inside Mayborn Campus Center on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
This is the second straight season CTX has advanced to the ASC Tournament. Concordia advanced all the way to the ASC Tournament semifinals last season before falling to UMHB.
Currently, CTX is sitting at 17-10 overall and 11-4 in ASC play. The 11 wins in conference play tied a school record for the most conference wins in program history.
Offensively, the Tornados are led by junior blocker
Marissa Stinson. Out of Pearland, Texas, Stinson ranks fifth in all of NCAA Division III with a .398 hitting percentage on the year. The two-time all-conference selection leads the team with 287 kills and 74 total blocks this season.
Tristyn Massey and
Georgia Quiroz have also been phenomenal for CTX this year. Massey, a junior out of Amarillo, Texas, has nine double-doubles on the year and sits second on the team with 261 kills. Quiroz, a sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, runs the offense as the Tornados' setter and has 873 assists on the year. In just two seasons, Quiroz ranks third in school history with 1,710 career assists.
In the recent all-conference awards release, both Stinson and Massey earned ASC All-Conference honors while Quiroz was named ASC Second Team All-West Division. Sophomore middle blocker
Marjani Myles also grabbed ASC First Team All-West Division accolades, and libero
Rylee Davis picked up ASC Honorable Mention All-West division.
The Tornados and Yellow Jackets faced off earlier this season with CTX taking home a 3-0 victory. The match for the Tornados was highlighted by 10 total service aces and 13 kills from both Stinson and Massey.
The winner of the matchup between CTX and LETU will move on to the double elimination portion of the bracket and will take on UT Dallas on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
