SEGUIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team took it down to the final set, but came up just short as they fell 5-4 to Texas Lutheran Saturday at Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Tornados got singles wins from
Justus Aarhus,
Camille Kempf and
Alejandra Rueda in the match as they fell to 3-2 on the season.
In the doubles matches Kempf, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, teamed up with
Alexis Popovich to grab the lone doubles win for CTX. The combo earned an 8-0 sweep en route to the victory.
Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play, the Tornados got a big win from Aarhus on line two to tie the match at two. Aarhus, a sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
TLU went on to win the next two singles matches to move ahead 4-2, needing just one more win to clinch the victory. Kempf and Rueda responded however with 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2 wins on lines four and six respectively.
In the final match of the night
Lauren Fox took the first set 7-6, but was unable to finish it off as she fell 7-6, 10-5.
CTX continues their non-conference schedule with a matchup against Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The match was originally slated to be played on Tuesday, February 13, but was rescheduled due to rain.
