KERRVILLE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team got stellar play all around and picked up a 7-2 win over Schreiner on Saturday at Cree Tennis Center.
The Tornados won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to move to 4-2 on the season.
In the doubles matches, CTX got wins from the combinations of Leyla Martinez and Justus Aarhus as well as Camille Kempf and Alexis Popovich to go ahead 2-1 heading into singles. Martinez and Aarhus won 8-3 while Kempf and Popovich won 8-6.
Playing on line one, Aarhus, a sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, picked up a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory.
Also in singles, Danielle Cuteri, Hayley Anderson and Popovich all grabbed straight set wins. Cuteri, a sophomore out of Austin, Texas, won on line two 6-3, 6-4 while Anderson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, and Popovich, a junior from Austin, Texas, won 6-2, 7-6 and 6-4, 6-1, respectively.
Martinez, a junior from Houston, also picked up a comeback victory while playing on line three 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Tornados will play their next four matches at home, starting with a game Saturday, March 10 against LeTourneau at Riverplace Country Club starting at noon.
