AUSTIN, Texas –The rain seemed to be the only thing to slow the Concordia Texas women's tennis team down as they defeated Sul Ross State 6-1 on Saturday at UT Whitaker Fields.
The Tornados (2-1) went 2-1 in the doubles matches and swept through the first four singles matches before the final two were unable to finish due to bad weather.
In the doubles, the combinations of
Leyla Martinez and
Lauren Fox as well as
Alexis Popovich and
Camille Kempf took home wins of 8-4 and 8-2, respectively.
Popovich, a junior from Austin, Texas, and Kempf, a sophomore out of San Antonio, Texas, also earned wins in the singles matches along with teammates
Justus Aarhus and
Hayley Anderson.
Playing on line one, Aarhus, a sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, grabbed an easy straight set win 6-1, 6-1. Anderson, a freshman from San Antonio, also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Both of the singles matches for Martinez and Fox were both suspended due to rain with Martinez up 6-4 after one set and Fox leading 6-1.
CTX will play matches on back-to-back days as they face off with Ozarks on Saturday at UT Whitaker Fields beginning at 1:00 p.m.
