AUSTIN, Texas –
Leyla Martinez would win in straight sets at line two to clinch the match for the Concordia Texas women's tennis team as they defeated St. Mary's (Ind.) 5-4 on Sunday.
The Tornados would take two of the three doubles matches as
Hayley Anderson and
Lauren Fox would take the match 8-5 at line two for the first win of the day.
Camille Kempf and
Alexis Popovich, meanwhile, held off the Belles at line three to win 8-6.
In the singles,
Justus Aarhus would pick up another win for CTX at line one as she won the first set 6-1 before Christina Lombardi retired. St. Mary's would take the next three matches to go up 4-3 with two matches left to play.
Kempf would break in each set at line three, taking the match 6-4, 6-4 to even the team score at 4-all. Martinez, at line two, would wrap up the team win for the Tornados going 7-5, 6-4 to give them their second consecutive win.
Concordia Texas will now prepare for Wisconsin Eau-Claire, hosting them on March 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Austin Tennis Courts.
