Spivey grabs ASC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas – For the second time in three weeks, Gabriel Spivey of the Concordia Texas men's track and field team was named American Southwest Conference field athlete of the week for his stellar performance in the long jump at the UIW Spring Break Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.

Spivey, a junior out of San Antonio, took home first place in the long jump with a season-best jump of 7.06 meters.

The jump was the longest this season by an NCAA DIII athlete and would currently qualify him for the NCAA DIII Championships in May.

In his career, Spivey has now garnered ASC athlete of the week honors three times after grabbing the honor earlier this season on March 6 as well as on March 22, 2016. He and Bayli Luke both took home an ASC honor this week making it the second time this season a women's and men's track and field athlete from CTX both won awards in the same week.

Spivey also competed on the 4x100-meter relay team at the UIW Invitational and helped the team to a third place finish with a final time of 43.76.

The Tornados will compete once again on Friday, March 23 in the War Hawks Classic in Abilene, Texas, hosted by McMurry University.
