Track & Field Delivers Standout Performances in Debut at Hendrix Open

Nick Anderson & the men's 4x400m team earned first-place finishes on Saturday.

CONWAY, Ark. – The Concordia Texas Track & Field teams turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Hendrix Open, hosted at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium, highlighted by multiple event titles, personal records, and relay podium finishes.

Event Champions & Relay Gold

Nick Anderson led the way for the Tornados, clearing 1.85 meters to claim first place in the men's high jump. Anderson also added a top-five finish in the long jump (6.22m), showcasing his versatility.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Isaias Mendoza, Sean Ray Makolo, Jaiden Gonzales, and Damari Rainey entered their first meet in dominant fashion, winning the event in 3:34.91.

Distance & Sprint Highlights

Mendoza captured a heat win in the 1500 meters, placing ninth overall with a time of 4:18.62, while Damon Vasquez followed with a strong 4:27.42 performance.

On the track, Rainey posted a 23.23 in the 200 meters to win his heat, and Gabriel Archangel added a top-10 finish in the same event (23.12). Rainey later contributed to the 4x400 relay victory.

For the women, Malaya Thomas placed fourth in the 200m (26.41) and fifth in the 100m (13.03), while Laeticia Lukusa earned a heat win in the 200 meters (28.25). Lukusa also secured a heat victory in the 200m.

Field Event Success

Cylie Wong recorded a second-place finish in the high jump (1.58m) and added points in the pole vault (2.45m).

Cienna Robinson posted a personal best in the shot put (9.10m) and competed in the discus (28.54m), continuing to build momentum in the throwing events.

Relay Podium Finish

The women's 4x100m relay team of Camille McWhorter, Zaya Blackwood, Lukusa, and Thomas clocked a 49.99 to finish third overall.

Concordia Texas will look to build on the momentum from Conway as they will next head up to Georgetown, Texas to compete in the CenTex Invitational next Saturday, March 7th on the campus of Southwestern University.
