AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team closed its three-match home stand facing Austin College, coming up short 8-1 on Saturday at River Place Country Club.
In the doubles matches, the Tornados trailed 2-0 after falling at line one and two. At line three,
Alexis Popovich and
Camille Kempf battled against the Roos, but ultimately dropped the match 8-6 as CTX trailed 3-0 heading into singles.
In singles,
Genna Ellinwood picked up the lone win for the Tornados, her first of the season, with a straight set, 6-2, 6-3, victory.
Popovich, playing at line five, would fall behind a set after losing a tiebreaker but came back with a 6-4 second set win. In the super tiebreaker, she would suffer a heartbreaking 11-9 losing decision.
Overall, CTX lost the team match 8-1.
Up next for the Tornados, they travel to Belton, Texas, opening up conference play against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
