ABILENE, Texas – In the final regular season match of the year, the Concordia Texas women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at Siedel-Swagerty Tennis Center Saturday against McMurry.
The Tornados won the line one doubles match to make the score 2-1 heading into singles, but could only grab one more win on the day as the fell to 8-9, 2-4 ASC.
In the doubles matches, CTX got a dominant 8-1 victory by the combination of
Justus Aarhus and
Leyla Martinez, but fell on lines two and three, losing both matches in a playoff 9-7.
Alexis Popovich grabbed the lone win in singles for the Tornados while playing on line three, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Both
Hayley Anderson and
Camille Kempf were able to win a set in their matches, but eventually fell 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 and 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Despite the loss, the Tornados still clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the second straight season by finishing in fourth place in the ASC West.
Next up, CTX will travel to Tyler, Texas, to compete in the ASC Tournament beginning on Thursday, April 26 against Tournament host UT Tyler at 4:30 p.m.
