ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team opened their fall season on Friday and Saturday, competing in the American Southwest Conference Fall Invitational.
The Invitational included all the teams of the ASC, competing in singles and doubles flights.
In the singles matches,
Alexis Popovich,
Camille Kempf and
Elaina Evans highlighted the tournament for the Tornados as each won the consolation side of their flight.
Popovich, playing in flight C, won the consolation championship in straight sets, while Kempf and Evans took care of the flight D and E consolation championship in straight sets, respectively.
Alejandra Rueda won the first two matches of flight H, including a 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 win in the semifinals, but came up short in the finals, finishing as the runner-up.
The doubles matches consisted of four flights for the invitational.
Leyla Martinez, entering her senior season with the team, paired up with newcomer
Claire Austin in flight A. The duo, after dropping the first match of the day, would back battle to win their next two matches to claim the consolation championship of the flight.
Kaitlin Stevens and Ellinwood, meanwhile, in flight D, finished in third in the winner's bracket, picking up an 8-4 win and then a walkover in the third-place match.
Next, CTX will head to San Antonio, Texas for the ITA Southwest Regional, which will begin on Friday, on the campus of Trinity University.
