AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team finished as the No. 2 seed in the American Southwest Conference standings and prepare to host Belhaven in a conference tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

The Tornados rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the final 12 minutes of their game against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday to pull even and register a draw. They finished the regular season 9-5-4, 7-1-3, which secured a second place finish in the conference standings, their best league finish in program history.

Concordia Texas makes their fifth straight ASC Tournament appearance and will host the No. 7 seed in the championships, the Blazers from Belhaven, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Round Rock, Texas.

Third-year head coach Nick Mims believes his team is playing their best at the right time.

"We are excited about the start of the ASC tournament," Mims said. "We feel that we have been in great form over the last few weeks and hope to continue that Tuesday night. It is fantastic that we were able to achieve the highest finish in program history, but our guys are hungry for more."

The Tornados will have a tough oppoenent ahead, hosting the Blazers, who finished as the No. 7 seed in the standings after an 11-5-1, 5-5-1 ASC in the regular season.

Belhaven is making their first-ever appearance in the conference tournament. In their lone matchup earlier in the year, CTX shut out the Blazers as Marco Vazquez provided the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win on Oct. 19.

Coach Mims knows Belhaven is a team that cannot be looked past.

"Belhaven should be a quality opponent," Mims said. "The first meeting was a tough match. It is not often that a seven seed has 11 wins on the season."

The Tornados, meanwhile, have found their groove during the second half of the season.

Since their 2-1 overtime loss to Ozarks on Oct. 3, CTX has won five of their last eight matches, with the other three contests resulting in draws. During that stretch, the Tornados have limited opponents to a total of only four goals and have recorded five shutouts. The program has eight shutouts on the year, ranking second-most in a single season in school history.

Concordia Texas is a young team, led by a batch of freshmen offensively, including team-leading goal scorer Marco Vazquez, who has found the back of the net seven times this season, which are fifth-most goals scored in a single season in program history.

Rodrigo Arellano and Xavier Polk, both freshmen as well, have each scored at least four goals on the season.

Meanwhile, defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Erik Rodriguez has been a wall for the Tornados, averaging less than one goal allowed a game this season. He has been in the net for all eight of CTX's shutouts on the season and has 66 saves so far.

The Tornados will host Blazers on Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Round Rock, Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

The winner of the match will advance to the conference tournament semifinals, which be hosted by UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas, where they will face the winner between Ozarks and Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday at 2 p.m.

Concordia Texas is seeking to make their third ASC Tournament semifinals appearance in their last four years and reach the championship game for the first time in program history.
