Tornados hold off the Rams for first win of the season

BOX SCORE SHERMAN, Texas – Alejandra Rueda, Rachel Sweitzer and Natalia Goodman all won their singles matches and the Concordia Texas women's tennis team defeated Texas Wesleyan 4-3 on Saturday for their first win of the season.

Playing National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics rules, the Tornados picked up the doubles point as Claire Austin and Kaitlin Stevens won 6-2 at line two followed by Goodman and Sweitzer winning the tiebreaker 7-5 at line three.

In the singles matches, CTX would fall at lines one, two and three, but rallied and secured wins at lines four, five and six.

Goodman, playing at line four, squeaked out a 6-4 first-set win before cruising in the second set 6-1 to earn a point for the Tornados. Sweitzer, meanwhile, only dropped one game in her match at line six, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Rueda secured the win for CTX at line five, The Eagle Pass, Texas native, dropped the opening set, but rallied, winning the final two sets 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Tornados.

Next, CTX will return home for their season-opening match on Feb. 29 when they host LeTourneau at 2 p.m. at the River Place Country Club in Austin, Texas.
