BOX SCORE KERRVILLE, Texas – Trailing after the completion of the double matches, the Concordia Texas women's tennis team nearly completed the comeback against Schreiner in their season-opening match on Saturday, but came up short, falling 5-4.
Cassandra Landeros-Cabrera and
Isabella Wiik won the lone match for the Tornados in the doubles competition, defeating Jennifer Garcia and Kate De Los Santos 8-6 at line one.
Both would pick up straight set wins in the singles matches as well.
Cabrera defeated Garcia 6-4, 6-3 at line one, while Wiik followed with her own straight set victory, cruising past De Los Santos 6-4, 6-2.
Alejandra Rueda won the opening set at line three, but dropped the following two frames, losing a three-set heartbreaker to Marlee Daniel.
Natalia Goodman, meanwhile, split the first two sets and outlasted Blair Drought-Villarreal with a 6-3 decision in the third to pick up the win at line four.
Concordia Texas fell in straight sets at line five and six though, falling short of the comeback and dropping their season-opening match to the Mountaineers, 5-4.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround, returning to Austin, Texas for a non-conference battle against St. Thomas (TX) on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the River Place Country Club.
