BOX SCORE SEGUIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's tennis team did not drop a single set throughout the match, completing a 9-0 sweep of Texas Lutheran on Sunday for their first win of the season.
The Tornados, who had not played a match since Feb. 4, showed no signs of rust in their return, completing a 3-0 sweep in doubles play.
Isabella Wiik and
Emily Hines began the dominating performance with an 8-4 win at line one.
Claire Austin and Kaitilin Stevens followed suit at line two, rolling to an 8-0 win, while
Alejandra Rueda and
Rachel Sweitzer took care of the Bulldogs at line three with an 8-0 victory as well.
In singles play, the Tornados showed no signs of letting up.
Wiik held on for a 7-5 decision in the opening set at line one and completed the win, taking the following set 6-2.
Claire Austin, meanwhile, picked up a win at line two after her opponent retired in the second set.
Rueda and Hines rolled to 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins at lines three and four, respectively. Stevens and Sweitzer wrapped up the win for CTX as neither dropped a game in their respective matches, each winning 6-0, 6-0.
Next, the Tornados will travel to Longview, Texas for a showdown against LeTourneau on Friday at 4 p.m.
