Corley, Salazar set school records at Bobcat Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Alejandro Salazar and Paighton Corley each set a school record in point total in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively, as the Concordia Texas Track and Field team closed out the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.

Salazar and Corley performed during all three days of the meet, beginning on Thursday and wrapping up their events on Saturday.

In the heptathlon, Corley, alongside teammate Sadie Ingram, the duo competed in seven events, including the 200m dash, 800m run, 100m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and javelin.

Each of them set a personal record in an event as Corley threw a career-best 24.97m in javelin to take eighth, while Ingram cleared a personal-best 1.49m in the high jump to finish sixth.

Corley placed seventh overall in the heptathlon, accumulating 3,444 points and smashed the school record previously set by Ingram back on March 30, 2018. Corley's heptathlon point total currently ranks fifth in DIII.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, Salazar and Matthew Gregory competed in the decathlon. The pair competed in 10 total events, including the 100m dash, 400m dash, 1,500m run, 110m hurdles, high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put, discus and javelin.

Gregory and Salazar each set PRs in shot put as Gregory won the event with a toss of 13.71m, while Salazar placed seventh with a personal-best throw of 9.75m.

Salazar finished the decathlon with a school record 4,687 points and took fourth overall.

The rest of the Tornados, on both the men's and women's side, had strong performances at the Bobcat Invitational.

In the women's events, Reanna New continued her weekly improvement, setting PRs in both the 100m and 200m events.

The Schertz, Texas native finished 15th overall with a personal-best time of 12.73, while in the 200m dash, she crossed the finish line in a time of 26.56.

Sophia West, meanwhile, beat her previous career best time in the 1,500m run, finishing in a time of 6:03.10 and placing 33rd overall.

Kendall Simpson wrapped up CTX's highlights on the women's side, recording a top-five finish in javelin after throwing a distance of 27.05m.

On the men's side, multiple Tornados had personal-best days.

Tristan Yates grabbed a top-10 finish in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a PR time of 11.29.

Meanwhile, in the 200m dash, all four CTX runners set PRs in the event. Ravon Davis Conway had the best time on the team, finishing in 22.43. Michael Williams, Rayvon Parker and Cristian Jimenez wrapped up the race with times of 23.79, 24.32 and 24.61, respectively.

In the 400m dash, Tevin Smith set a PR and recorded a top-10 finish, placing eighth after running a time of 50.20, while teammate Williams also set a personal-best, running a time of 52.69.

In the mid distance events, Sam Stewart shined for CTX, finishing 13th overall in the 800m run with a time of 2:00.11. Daniel Bizima was not far behind, finishing 17th in a time of 2:10.34, while Miguel Morales took 19th with a personal-best time of 2:12.84.

Meanwhile, in the 5,000m run, Rick Platas set a PR after placing 16th with a time of 16:18.99.

Lopez set his second PR of the day in the 110m hurdles, finishing 15th after running a time of 18.10.

Concordia Texas wrapped up the meet with a couple of top-three finishes in field events.

Davis Conway took second in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 13.90m, while teammate Travion Walker jumped a personal-best distance of 12.63m and finished third overall.

In javelin, Salazar won the event with a toss of 47.82m, while Dylan Day placed third after a throw of 37.28m in the event.

The Tornados also had competitors in a second meet this week, sending Brett Jackson, Terrance Pellerin and Preston Perkins to run in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Perkins competed in the 400m hurdles on Thursday, finishing in a time of 57.58.

Meanwhile, Jackson and Pellerin ran on Friday in the 110m hurdles. Jackson clocked in a personal-best time of 15.38 in the event, while Pellerin crossed the finish line with a time of 15.81.

Next, CTX will travel to San Antonio for the UIW Invitational. The one-day meet will hosted on the campus of Incarnate Word on April 10.
